Here are a few tips and advice on what you need to know and do prior to donating plasma. I am NOT a licensed healthcare professional and I DO NOT own the rights to this music.
The machine stopped 20 minutes in and the lady said my veins won’t let the blood renter. Could my veins be to small, or could it be the machine that failed.
Alex coleman , it’s possible a clot formed inside the needle .
The majority of phlebotomists there are on the job training .
Sounds like you had a rookie
@Schwinn Scrambler this 2as the second time. The needles they use (octapharma) are huge, and I guess my veins are small. Caused tons of bruses & I got poked 3x just to get my blood back into me. I don’t understand why the needles are so damn big, and why I have no problems giving blood, or taking an IV at a hospital, but I can’t complete the plasma “prosses” or even have the blood put back in my body there. This is disappointing. Any ideas, or recommendations? Should I ask for a certain gauge needle, or can you recommend a place where they know how to take plasma from small veins. I’d like to donate, but both times have been bad experiences. That & I don’t like looking like I’m a bruised up junky for 2.5 weeks, and can’t where short sleeves without getting looked at funny.
Alex coleman , owww I’ve had a couple of difficult visits ( I’m just a donor no expert ) and what you describe is mindblowing as I thought the blood needles and plasma were the same size for volume purposes ? I’ve been going for almost a year and the scar tissue buildup is making it increasingly difficult for myself and I don’t let the rookies touch me anymore .
I guess some people are not suitable donors for an infinite number of reasons ???
I wish you the best
@Schwinn Scrambler ok. Thanks for your help. I just find it hard to believe that I’m not a good donor. It had to be operator error, & one size fits all equipment. (I’m sure it would work, but it would take longer). Oh well thanks again.
if you decide to try it again explain to them that you’ve had difficulties in the past and would appreciate if they sent you their most experienced phlebotomist .
They make big $ off of this , they don’t want to turn you away .
I like that csl plasma, back in 07,08 I donated. Great info.
Thanks for your input girl! Yaaaaas
